Congratulations to Jen & Mike who are engaged to be married this July! After starting indoors, we headed to downtown Minooka for some "urban" shots ... We all loved the red brick backgrounds... and knew that as cool as Moose Island is, we wouldn't find too much color this time of year! They will always remember the "Blizzard" of 2011, since all of the remaining snow sparkled for the photographs we took with Wiley, their adorable pup! 503 Online Photography Workshop

I just finished a FABULOUS six week on-line photography course and wanted to share some of my favorites images... and give a shout out to Jessica and her AWESOME workshop! I learned so much in such a short amount of time! Jessica does an amazing job of providing each of her students with personal feedback with regard to their assignment and photography questions. She designs the assignments so that they are differentiated to meet the varying needs of her students... with regard to their equipment, their background and experience, their time commitment, etc. I am so much more comfortable with my camera and lenses and my understanding of photography grew exponentially as a result of her lessons, feedback, and the design of her online forum.

Starting the workshop in the dead of winter was not an easy task, but it gave me some motivation to get out there and capture winter at its best, even if my fingers were frozen and I was bundled in a ton of layers! The class focused on lighting, composition, post-processing, exposure, metering, shutter speeds, white balance, focus, and much more... I can't wait till spring arrives, so I can spend more time capturing shots with my new camera and lens without the hat, gloves, scarves, snow pants, boots, sweaters.....

I look forward to continuing to grow through the online forum set up for past students as a way to keep in touch and keep the creative juices flowing.... thanks, Jessica, for providing a fast paced, jam packed full-of-valuable-knowledge-workshop that stretched me to become a better photographer...

I met up with the Jefcoats for a fall session with little Belle... and she is not so little anymore! She is an active toddler who enjoyed running around in the sunshine that greeted us at the United States Botanic Garden and in front of the Capitol Building! We had excellent weather as I captured some fall portraits of Oliver. I was amazed that flowers were still blooming and the leaves were so colorful! Oliver was easy going-- as usual and even wore the lion costume that Ilana made! Natalie and Travis: St. Louis Engagement

Natalie and Travis live in Kansas City but made the 4 hr drive to capture some St. Louis themed engagement photographs. Natalie grew up in St. Louis, and since the wedding will be in KC, they wanted to have some engagement images from both of their hometowns. We started off with a few of their incredibly gentle dog, Paisley, who is just so big! Then, we headed down to the Arch and new Busch Stadium for some authentic "St. Louis" backgrounds. The leaves were at their "peak" with so many colors... it was a beautiful weekend to capture this special time leading up to their May 1st wedding!

The Hawes Family enjoyed fall portraits at one of Peoria's neighborhood parks. It was a beautiful afternoon, so our session was an attraction for the many dog walkers in the area... this included lots of barking at Maya and Mason! Aubrey was full of smiles and loved exploring the trail... she was so fast, I could barely keep up... she sure keeps her parents busy!

Chris braved unusually cold October temperatures on a day off from school, to capture his senior photographs. Our timing was great, to catch the change in the fall leaves... I only wish it had been warmer! Chris rode to and from the session on his motorcycle and it was CHILLY! Birthdays for these brothers passed in July... so it was time to mark the occasion with a session! Andrew such a great helper (who turned 4 yrs) tried to assist Adam (who turned 2 yrs) in smiling, posing, and being sweet... Adam was too funny... he never wanted to do exactly what we were looking for at the right time... but he always came around on his own terms... such as sitting down and posing in the exact location about 5 minutes after we had asked him to join us! The boys were the best 1:1 with their mom... they loved having her all to themselves! And... I've included one of the family's fall portraits... since I am way behind on updating the blog!

Preston Turns Two

Coletta 60th Reunion

The Coletta family gathered at Lake Lawn Resort and after group photographs, they enjoyed a relaxing cruise on Lake Geneva. The day concluded with a delicious meal and tearful toasts to Ethel and Ralph, as their children, grand children and great grand children reminisced about special memories and their genuine appreciation of family and togetherness. Spending time with a family that came from near and far to celebrate was more than a photo shoot.... it was an inspirational event!

The Miller Boys turn ONE

Will and Bruce were just days away from their first birthday during my visit... They are getting so big, it's so hard to believe that it's been a whole year since they were born. I am so happy to say that I have had many opportunities to visit and photograph them throughout their first year. This time around, Will was the smiley one who was more than ready for photographs, while Bruce was cutting a painful tooth throughout most of my visit. In the fall, Bruce was all about the giggles and laughs, so my guess is that being twin boys... they will play a little game each time I am around... I am beginning to see how tricky our sessions will be in the future!! Happy Birthday Miller Boys!!

Manda and Scott...Tied the Knot

Manda and Scott were married in Tipton, Missouri on Saturday, December 27th. The weekend started with a temperature of 64 degrees, but by the time the reception was over there was a layer of ice on every car! Manda took it all in stride and said, "Isn't it good luck to have rain on your wedding day?" The church was packed with family and friends who witnessed Scott's surprise serenade to his new bride at the altar which had guests smiling, laughing, and crying. It was such a memorable day for the happy couple and all those who celebrated with them; I wish them all the best in the New Year!

Baby Logan has been a joy to photograph since his mid August birth. I was able to document him during quiet rest at 3 weeks and most recently during a breezy fall afternoon at 5 weeks. His portraits were the first infant ones I took outside... his eyes had to get adjusted to the bright light, but overall he was the picture of contentment. I look forward to capturing special memories of Baby Logan as he grows over the next several months!

Visiting the Miller Boys in DC last week was truly an eye opening experience. After my recent visit with Team Eastman, I thought I was prepared for a week long visit with my best friend and her 3 month old twin boys... but photographing four babies for a few hours is nothing, compared to being mom to them! I have a new appreciation for the parents of multiples! In addition to assisting with feeding the boys every three hours, my favorite part was that each day provided a new opportunity for photos! I had such a wonderful time getting to know Will and Bruce and only wish that we lived closer! Until my next visit, here are my favorites!

When I first met Paisley as a 6 month old puppy, I described her as "huge!" As she comes upon her second birthday this fall, Paisley has grown quite a bit, but I'm more likely to describe her as a Gentle Giant... This time she was so laid back and calm and was especially inquisitive about some bugs in the grass! Her cousin, Buddy says "hi"... its been a while since they've hung out together. Team Eastman Celebrates Summer

I was so excited to capture photos of Team Eastman as I traveled to Columbia a few weeks ago! The warm weather was in full effect and babies were on the loose!! Kristen does an incredible job of keeping her team on a schedule, so I was ready at 7:30am for our session right after breakfast, but before nap time, when I was promised a houseful of smiles! Caroline, Ellie, Wilson, and Luke have grown up so much since my December visit, they have such unique personalities that truly set them apart from the crowd. He was hilarious... he loved rolling in the snow and was covered in ice chunks by the time I finished chatting with his photographer "mom." I loved this one of him covered in snow... maybe he and Buddy can meet up next time!

Meeting up with four generations was a wonderful experience. In addition to family photos, there were sibling photos, couples photos, cousin photos, and four legged photos... it was truly an enjoyable experience to get to know each family and personalize their session... until the next baby is born... enjoy a few of my favorites!

Baby A is one of my best friend's little girls.. She is such a beautiful and sweet addition to their family! She loves smiling, reading books, and making everyone laugh around her. Bear, the former "only child" in the house is still a little unsure of his role and how things will play out with his new sibling! I can't wait for my next visit to see Baby A, she is growing like crazy!

An incredible duo... these Boston's are my friends "little mongrels" as I like to call them (affectionately of course)! Bo is the older, more mature of the two, who was even acting a bit timid when I invited him on my lap. Bandit on the other hand... lives up to his name and more! He is the feisty, frisky, play fetch-all-day with a soggy ball companion. Maya and Mason

Maya the more timid one, who speaks up when she's being bullied and Mason, the instigator, who manages to listen... only long enough for his portrait to be taken! Renee always has a great time posing for the camera, but last weekend marked our first bath time photo session together! I have always loved capturing photos of her outside, but in these cold months there was a new location to try out...one that didn't require several layers of clothes! Renee was at it again, being super smiley for the camera and having a ball chatting it up the whole time... her verbal skills are out of this world!!

Andrew and Adam had a great time in front of the camera on a blustery Saturday evening at my house! They always put up with lots of photos, especially during this time of year when being inside means being in front of the camera! I love it that Andrew now calls me "fun Amy" every time we get together! He has grown up to be such a helpful and loving big brother... baby Adam and his parents are so lucky!

Meet Team Eastman... Ellie, Caroline, Wilson, & Luke... and don't forget their dog, Clark, and mom and dad! I was so excited to finally meet the quadruplets after getting weekly updates and photos since their miraculous birth! I taught with their mom for several years, and enjoyed visiting with her and documenting life with FOUR eight month olds!! Some of my favorite photos were of all of the team's stuff... you can't help but notice how having multiples gives you so many of the basics... the bottles, the towels, etc! Unfortunately, we will have to wait until my next visit to capture a photo of the entire team together... we weren't willing to compromise the eating and sleeping schedules of four little ones, two days after Christmas and the day before a family trip just for a photo... so until next time... enjoy a glimpse of life with the Team!

Carter, former star of my business cards is at it again! As one of my best friend's sons, I have been photographing Carter since the day he arrived home from the hospital. The drive to St. Louis creates a few months between sessions, so each time we get together I am amazed at how much Carter has grown! He looks like such a little boy now and is doing lots of talking! I realized he must be getting some more teeth because he had something in his mouth in nearly every photo! Can't wait to see what new things Carter will be up to on my next St. Louis visit!

Having newborn photos taken in the midst of holiday shopping and crazy weather can be a bit tricky, but Baby Nicolas lives close by... it was easy to coordinate our session in the comfort of his new home with all of his great accessories nearby! His big brother was the most energetic and proved to me that babies don't need peace and quiet in order to rest... little Nicolas slept through his big brothers excited cheers and silly jokes and stayed awake for quite a while, too! Congratulations to the whole family on their new addition!

I took their holiday photos on an icy Saturday afternoon in early December, just in time for them to share their portraits with family and friends this holiday season. I was able to capture the Corrigan family's holiday photos during one of the last nice weekends in November... They picked a great outdoor location, a little park off the Du Page River... the children had a great time watching for geese, playing in the leaves, and their dad's idea... tossing rocks over the bridge! I loved capturing a few extra silly ones when I told them we were going to create a "surprise" for mom and dad... they had some great faces for those ones and had a few tender sibling moments as well... Lucky for me, the Corrigans live close by, so I can be sure to capture more special memories throughout the year!

DC Dogs
